I don't get it myself. I thought I was really smart for getting out of my four-coin set back in May when they fetched about $2600. Now they're a solid $3400 and still rising. Almost double spot.

How many do most people start with? I've been considering selling on e-bay and have never done so.

Re: American Eagle Gold Proof $50

If new to ebay your feedback score will start at 0

With each successful transaction you will have the opportunity to leave/recieve feedback based upon that transaction.

Starting off selling a product like au/ag or coins, it's more likely that people will shy away from your auctions if you hve 0 or just a few feedbacks. I know I would.

However if you can sell some less expensive items, do some purchasing (to get a positive feedback rating started), and write up a good explaination of your situation as a new seller along with a 7 day return policy, that would help out a lot.

I actually hold a couple of the 1998W $50 proof Eagles.

PCGS has the the PR68 at $1,570 and the PR70 at $2,050,
So $1,927 for an ungraded coin? WTF!:36_1_25:

I cannot WAIT for the auction I'm going to... they have a 1988 4-pc proof set, plus 6 other 1oz GAE proofs, all in original Mint packaging. I have a feeling that stuff is gonna go cheap (less than $1200ea, maybe $2200 for the set)

Let us know what they all go for. I'm always dissapointed at auctions because there are always coin hounds there, and they are all armed with info. But in your case they may not have enuf coin to pony up for a 4 coin set, so good luck.

I think that may be the case with this one. There are a LOT of coins at this auction. Lot of slabbed stuff, a lot of silver (90% coinage as well as some large sterling medal sets), lot of world coins. I'm hoping everyone will blow their money on that stuff while I grab the proofs.

When you bid I add to the famous scribe above:

ask for a small jar of VASELINE with it :fan: which you may actually receive, as you'll need it to make the shaft fell better in your, shall we politely say, your heart? :Surrender::504:

Jeez $3400 is old news apparently, completed auctions say $3550+ is the new floor. At these prices I am very tempted to sell off my 1995 5-coin set, minus the precious '95-W ASE of course.

Until the 2010 AGE Proofs are officially announced (should we hold our breath?) I can see these keep going up in value. Surely there is some ceiling though?
The day that announcement is made, proof premiums will start tanking, that's what happened w/ the buffs.

If you have a long term working relationship with your local dealer(s).

Always have more than one. Before the boat went down for the third time, I did certain business with certain dealers.

Each dealer specializes in one form of PM or another.

It's kind of late in the game to build 20-30 year relationships with your local dealers but i doesn't hurt to give it your best shot.

If your dealer knows that you know what you're talking about, you'll be surprised at the the deals you'll get at both buying and selling.

Before the tragic boat accident the $50 Proofs that I paid $600-$630 for, I know I could get $1600-$1800+ for.

The 4 piece proof sets are getting $3200-3600+.

These are dealer prices (if you,'ve done your foot work and home work over the years).

http://www.americanrarities.com/ will usually buy proofs at $100-$200 below retail.
